Does Refurbished Mean Unreliable?
Everybody has his or her own opinion about buying ‘used’, whether it’s a car or a stereo or even a house. Some think it’s the only way. And some would never consider it. When it comes to buying computers and laptops, people are generally even more divided. For many, it’s rare to even consider buying a previously owned laptop, desktop or tablet.
If you’re one of those people who would never think to purchase a refurbished computer, then this article is for you.
Not long ago, refurbished technology was old technology. Think back to the ‘90s and the beginning of personal computers. Computer technology was moving so fast that if you didn’t get the newest product, you would be obsolete by next year—new software would be incompatible and you’d have to buy another machine.
This trained people to think that when it comes to computers, previously owned, dated technology was simply not an option.
But all that has changed.
Fast-forward 25 years. These days, computer technology doesn’t change much from year to year. In the past ten years, the technology has basically stayed the same in desktops and laptops. They managed to put more RAM and hard-disk space in newer models, but this doesn’t change the machine itself. Most older machines are upgradable as well. In the world of laptops and desktops, the technology does not move nearly as fast as it once did.
So does refurbished still mean unreliable?
The answer is a resounding no.
This statistic is repeated all over the place, so don’t take our word for it. Read about it here
This surprising information could also be due to the fact that many refurbished computers aren’t really “used” at all. Many of them come from returns when a customer simply changed his or her mind. According to one source, only 5% of returned electronics are actually defective. The few units that are defective are meticulously refurbished by experts, making them more reliable than ever. The net effect is that, in the end, refurbished computers can be given more scrutiny, attention and tender loving care than new ones. This is certainly true at Compugen Education. We get our computers from three primary sources: our enterprise leasing portfolio, our Corporate Trade-in program, and the occasional open box overstock from our corporate returns. In all three cases, only the highest performing computers make the cut. The computers that end up being refurbished are already the cream of the crop, and they are meticulously checked during our Honor Roll Certification™ process.
So next time you’re thinking about buying a desktop or laptop, remember that refurbished computers can deliver comparable performance and improved reliability.
The only difference is you pay a fraction of the cost.
We are so confident in our refurbished process and the quality of the units we provide to schools that we offer a lifetime warranty to all our education customers. Try finding a matching lifetime warranty on brand new technology.
