Windows 10: Should I Upgrade?
Are you a Windows 7 or 8.1 user? Well, we’ve got news for you.
Starting this July, Microsoft will only provide its partners Windows 10 licenses. This means that we will no longer be able to purchase Windows 7 and 8.1 licenses to sell to our clients.
Depending on how you feel about upgrading all of your school’s computers to Windows 10, this could be good or bad news for you. We’ll outline some reasons why you might be excited, and then we’ll tell you what to do if you’d like to delay the upgrade as long as possible.
- Boot up time is markedly faster in Windows 10 and general navigation is noticeably quicker too.
- Power management is improved, meaning that laptop and mobile batteries last longer.
- Windows 10 includes Cortana, your digital personal assistant. This is Windows’ answer to Google Now and Apple’s Siri. Using voice commands, Cortana can search your computer, play music, take dictated notes, add tasks and reminders, and of course search the web.
- The new Share Ribbon makes it easy to move files between different applications.
- The Virtual Desktops feature is built right into the operating system. This makes it easier to move between applications and keep desktops free of clutter.
- Windows 10 has a better multi-monitor support.
- Windows’ new browser application, Edge, is an improvement over Internet Explorer – it’s fast, elegant, and includes many new features.
All these new features make Windows 10 a marked improvement over Windows 7. Even those who have been skeptical have ended up being pleased with the new OS. But upgrading to a new OS is a big step to take for an institution, and needs to be taken at the right moment.
For Those Not Ready To Switch To Windows 10… There’s Still Time.
If you’re not ready to switch to Windows 10, then you still have time to get Windows 7 from us. We’re still selling it until July 1, and even after that, some of our licenses will remain. So hurry up and get your next order of refurbished computers with Windows 7 licenses before it’s too late!
Microsoft will continue to provide security patches for Windows 7 until 2020 and will provide mainstream support for Windows 8.1 until 2018.
