Ongoing analysis, as well as internal and external audits ensure that we are constantly improving our supply chain to better serve our education clients. We’re raising the standards on what a refurbished computer can be.
It starts with the life of the original computer. We don’t pick up a computer on some marketplace site. Our computers come directly from professional office environments. The majority are sourced from our large enterprise leasing portfolio. The rest are either open box stock or come from bank and insurance offices with whom we have a relationship. Every single one of the computers we receive has been used in a clean, professional environment or not used at all. We’re purveyors of pampered PCs.
When a computer enters our facility, our teams of experts get to work. They:
- Wipe the hard drive three times, as the Department of Defense recommends, using an industry leading data erasure software.
- Open the machine to determine if there are any physical defects. If we find anything unsavory (water or heat damage, for instance) we recycle the machine.
- Check for any cosmetic defects.
- Thoroughly clean the machine, removing dust with high pressure air, checking all moving parts, eliminating rattles.
- Check the motherboard for any leaking or otherwise compromised capacitors.
- Check the power supply, battery, fan, and any disk drives.
- Using OEM software, check the CPU, hard drive, RAM, and optical drive to make sure the system is working exactly as it did when it left the factory the first day.
- According to the order, install all applicable software. As a certified Microsoft reseller, we install legally authorized Windows. All software is authorized, installed, updated and checked.
- Log all the pertinent information for each machine that we refurbish. That way we can reference the precise history of each machine.
- Ship the machines in specialized clean boxes with all specs visible on the outside.
The important thing: if we notice a machine isn’t operating at 100%, then we simply don’t send it out. Period.
